How to do a Patch Test for Henna and Jagua Cones

Our organic henna and jagua cones are made with safe and natural ingredients but it is important to do a patch test to make sure your skin does not develop an allergic reaction. Here's how:

  • Thaw the cone for 30 minutes. You may notice the henna paste is darker at the tip. This happens because the metal pin reacts with the henna paste. Just squeeze out the darkened paste on a tissue before use.
  • Choose a small patch of skin to perform the test on. It should be an area that you do not wash or rub for a few hours ex. inner arm. It is important to cleanse the skin before proceeding.
  • Apply a quarter-sized amount of henna/jagua paste on skin. Let this dry completely and then cover it with a bandage. For henna and jagua henna leave the bandage for 8 hours. For jagua gel, leave the bandage for 4 hours. If you experience any itching, burning, or pain, remove the bandage and wash the area immediately.
  • Remove the bandage. Observe your skin over the next 24 hours. If your skin appears red, bumpy, or itchy, you likely have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients and should not use the henna/jagua cone.
